Uncle David was one of my heroes. He taught me how to break rules and have fun. When I was 10 years old, he let me drive his Studebaker. In April 2011 he passed away at his home, up in Robbinsville, Tennessee. He was happy up there, in his cabin with Aunt Nancy. He said that if he wanted to, he could sit on his front porch butt naked and no one would know. It was certainly a sad time when he passed, but it brought the family together and we enjoyed telling classic Uncle David stories.
After he passed, Aunt Nancy mailed me some poems that he had written her. I took some lines from a few different poems, wrote a chorus around them, and made this song.
This is for Aunt Nancy.
lyrics
Up On This Mountain
Oh we've walked together you and I
Side by side
For quite a long time, we've shared both the good times
As well as the bad
But we both know the good far outweighed the bad
~ chorus ~
I'll love you up on this mountain
With that bright Tennessee moon shining on down
And that porch faces the sun every time you're around
Lessons in life never end
For those learned the hard way
You never forget and all along
The way we make mistakes
But losin you was the greatest of them all
Well baby it's been a long long road
But we've made it here
And you can bet all your money that I'd do anything
For you my dear
From Georgia to Tennessee we're here in our golden years
Now the time has come that we must part
But the love never ends
For you are forever in my heart
And though we will part
We'll join again to walk together side by side
